Wileyfox Could Be A Name To Watch..

Although not yet released, a new brand of smartphone, targeted at the entry level, is causing a bit of a buzz.
It will be of particular interest to those concerned about their privacy.
This is the Wileyfox Swift, a new 4G model which boasts a 5-inch, 1280x720 pixel display, 2Gb of RAM, 16Gb of storage, 13 megapixel rear and 5 megapixel front cameras.
That specification compares well with some more expensive phones from established brands like Samsung Galaxy J5 and Motorola Moto G.
Whereas that pair will set up back £160-£200 each, the Swift will be retailing at £129.
It is not to be found in the shops, though.
It will be an online-only product.
While it is not expected to start shipping until the end of the month, anyone interested can register now at www.wileyfox.com.
The thing that is generating most interest on the netwaves is its operating system.
It will run an open source variant of Android call Cyanogen.
This has allowed Wileyfox to build in tight controls on privacy for the benefit of the phone’s users.
Combining Cyanogen with third party Apps, like Privacy Guard and TrueCaller, gives robust call blocking and allows users enhanced control over what data the phone releases.
It also declares war on bloatware, those unwanted Apps, widgets and trial software that take up capacity and slow the phone down.
A number of reviewers have already put a Swift through its paces and concluded that it is ‘exciting’, ‘an interesting proposition’ and ‘good value for money’.
So, with a second, higher-spec model due out before the end of the year, Wileyfox could be a name to watch.
