Consider An App Or Two For Their Return To School
As thoughts turn from holidays to the return to school, there might be room for considering an App or two alongside equipping them with uniform, pen and calculator.
A consistent entry in ‘Top Ten Apps for Students’ lists is MyHomework Student Planner.
This digital planner can hold a timetable of classes and a schedule of tests and assignments to help scholars keep track of what they should be doing when – all set out in a neat calendar display.
It will issue reminders when homework or project work is due for submission.
Whilst the free version has most of the features, it is not advert free.
The premium version cost £3.99 but avoids those intrusive promotional banners.
The icing on this particular cake is that it runs on phones, tablets, laptops and the cloud and synchronises across versions, so the up-to-date picture is available wherever the student may be.
Then, for those who are easily distracted, installing RescueTime might be a help.
This monitors and analyses time spent on screen and is another multi-platform App.
A student holed up at their desk to write an essay on the computer can be too easily diverted into WhatsApp or You Tube.
Before they know it, time scheduled for homework has evaporated away.
RescueTime can monitor time spent using each application or website and present a summary.
It can record goals, like ‘no more than 20 minutes a day on Facebook’ and report back whether it is achieved.
While the kids generally object to parents telling them to do their homework, they might be more compliant if it is their beloved phones and laptops organising them up!
