In Car Entertainment Securing The Device
When it comes to navigation and/or entertainment on a journey, there are countless in-car phone and phablet mounts on the market, but many are unsatisfactory.
How should we approach the task of choosing one?
The first challenge is to choose between the options for securing the device. Using the windscreen or dashboard, by suction or adhesive, is the most popular solution, but finding a position that does not interfere with vision while keeping the touchscreen within easy reach can be challenging.
While better models readily stay in place, they tend to leave marks, and on dashboards the resultant damage can be more permanent.
That has led more recently to a proliferation of devices that cling on to other parts of the car, in particular an air vent, a cup holder or a CD player.
Each of these options has its potential downside. Unless it is turned off, an air vent can damage phones by overheating them in winter conditions.
Line of sight to cup holders mounted screens may be blocked by the steering wheel.
CD player mounts cannot be used whilst playing a disc.
Any of these might be too low to glance at without losing perception of the road ahead, depending on the layout of the car.
Having decided the best approach for the car in question, it is a good idea to see which models emerge as favourites amongst the host of recommendations on the Net.
The dashboard mounted Scosche Magic Mount and iOttie Easy One Touch, CD Player mounted Satechi Universal, air vent mounted Kenu Airframe+ and Belkin Car Cup Holder Mount all receive several positive mentions in the review listings.
