Runners May Be Just The Start Of Music App Race
The arrival of a new product from Spotify heralded a campaign to win the hearts and minds, but mostly the ears and small change, of enthusiastic runners.
The industry has noticed a growth in the numbers of fold running in pursuit of fitness.
So, the race is on to cash in by entertaining them while they pound the pavements.
Spotify Running claims to be a revolution for runners.
This version of the music streaming App takes feedback from the accelerometer in the phone it is playing accordingly.
Songs with a distinctive beat are matched to the pace of the runner at the right tempo to synchronise with their stride and help to maintain rhythm. It is, though, being widely criticised by some adopters for assessing the tempo too early in a run, during the warm up phrase, and not adjusting to faster tracks as the pace increases.
Furthermore, its launch has inadvertently unleashed its competition. It seems as App called RockMyRun has been quietly doing the same things for a while now and its enthusiasts have started shouting that it does the job better.
What I want to know is – why just runners? What about others with pursuits involving lengthy, sometimes solitary, periods in the open air?
Why not tackle the dog walker market? I suggest an App that detects when they are yanked to a halt, to reach for the pooper scooper, and switches the mood flowing to their ears downbeat.
How about ramblers? Cannock Chase demands a different playlist to the Lake District, surely?
And, might we even anticipate that a soothing Spotify Sun bathing could be launched soon?
