Samsung aiming to clean up
LG has launched one, but only in South Korea as yet. Toshiba has one too, only in Japanese outlets. However, Samsung’s model is now available here, for a mere £1699.
What is it? It is a washing machine that you can talk to.
A flurry of activity in the marketplace has seen the arrival of the smart domestic appliance. The excitingly names Samsung WW10H9600EW is a washtub with a difference. Alongside the 1600rpm spin and the A+++ energy rating, it does Wi-Fi. When you and your washer are within range of wireless signals you can communicate by smartphone. Digging a hole in the garden?
It will tell you with a ping from the App in your pocket that the spin cycle is finally done and you can drop the trowel to fire up the rotary drier. Struggling to natter with a neighbour over the chardonnay? Pause that pesky rinse mode with a single button press on the iPad. Admit it, this is the functionality you have spent yearning for.
LG has gone one better with its Smart washing machine. You can kick off a washing machine cycle remotely. Load it up in the morning but get it going later from your desk, timed to finish as you come through the door in the evening. LG has also launched, again only in South Korea as yet, a smart fridge that keeps track of ‘use by’ dates for you.
Best of all it has internal cameras. If Koreans want to know if they should call at a supermarket on the way home, they can now whip out the phone, fire up the App and look around the fridge remotely.
