Show Powers On As Kit Is Unveiled
As expected, there were reports of plenty of innovation from the Consumer Electronics Show last week as manufacturers unveiled their futuristic kit.
Here are three developments that got plenty of attention.
Samsung got many TV enthusiasts excited by their Modular Screen system.
This was a means of making ever bigger displays by combining smaller ones.
Flat screens with no surrounds could be butted against each other like tiles, with each individual display providing a part of the overall picture.
Samsung are suggesting that screens up to 170 inches could be built this way.
All that would be needed is a room big enough to sit back from it.
Meanwhile Audi were trailing a new approach to selling cars using Virtual Reality.
Sit in a comfy chair next to a salesman and pop on the VR helmet to try every car in the range from the driver’s seat.
Different trim colour on the seats, sir?
No Problem, one press of a button. Why don’t we seat you in the Cabriolet, madam? Easy!
An innovative outfit called Ossia was demonstrating some ground-breaking stuff for charging products wirelessly.
They claim that not only will their base station top up a battery without the need to plug it in, it can do it from up to ten feet away.
Visitors to the show saw demonstrations with smartphones, fitted with special miniature receivers, and devices running on a special form of AA battery.
Ossia claim that their gizmo can charge ‘a room full of devices at the same time,’ although it might struggle with a room that has enough space to use Samsung’s 14 foot telly as wallpaper.
