What Can We Expect In The Year Ahead?
Now that 2015 is with us, what so the experts think it will bring in the way of IT, apart from those two items the market appears not to be awaiting that eagerly, the iWatch and Google Glass?
The first prediction is a significant growth in contactless payments. But that, they say may lead to a surge in “contactless crime” with “electronic pickpockets” at large in crowded places using “rogue terminals” to target the unsuspecting with unexpected transactions on any contactless bank cards that come within range.
That, in turn, is expected to give rise to demand for an emerging breed of “personal stealth” product, such as the “skimproof wallet” which blocks the signals used by contactless systems.
Secondly, specialists suggest that we can expect the term “Personal Cloud” to take off in a big way. This is the idea that a personal environment tailored to the needs of an individual, combining their applications and their data, can be held out on the Net, to be accessed from anywhere on any device at any time.
The products already exist and trailblazers are already doing it. However, the name is a new one, and all the big players could be trying to sell it as a total solution by the end of the year.
Finally, 2015 is predicted to be the year in which drones take to the sky in numbers, both commercial units and personal toys. They are becoming affordable and can be fun.
However, camera carrying drones have the potential to be misused, for instance by thieves and voyeurs.
They could also be an antisocial nuisance.
Could this year see the inception of the DASBO?
