New light bulb is switched on to modern life

LG announced the introduction of a high-tech light bulb this week, one which has gone on sale at the equivalent of a whopping £20 per bulb in his native Korea. The big thing is, though, that this one talks to smartphones and works with an app that offers a range of possible uses. Security is one with the big functions.

Unlike a traditional timer, which leaves your lights to go on and off with a fixed cycle whilst you laze in a distant hotel or villa, these bulbs can mix it up a bit. A lounge light can be switched on from an iPhone in Ayia Napa. Another suggested use is creating a party atmosphere. The App can vary the intensity of the bulbs light in sync with the music playing on the phone. The light can flash along with the beat booming from a speaker as the tune Bluetoothes into it.

More practical is a bedroom installation of the bulb, with the App programmed to slowly increase the light level at alarm time as a dark wintery night turns to day. A further function built into the App is the ability to dip or flash the lights when a message or call comes on the phone.

These LED bulbs will connect via either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and are expected to appeal to small business owners, specially in niche retail markets where fun lighting is an attraction, as much as homeowners.

Whilst no launch date for the UK has been set yet, LG’s announcement has sparked considerable interest and once available people could possibly be the latest must have.
