Beware of ‘Facebook’ Scam warns Peter Clarke of PC PAL
Do you receive those innocent reminders from Facebook? Someone you know has posted something, you haven’t been back to Facebook for a while so why not reconnect now?
But how about the warning that your account has been deactivated and all you need to do is ‘click here’ and login again?
Don’t be tempted! - this is a clever scam message designed to take your login details, which will give access to all the details you have in Facebook and potentially those of friends. This could leave you open to identity theft or even having your house broken into – have you ever posted when you are on holiday or are out for an evening?
So what do you look out for? Identify the scam in three easy steps:
- Messages from Facebook come from @facebook.com not any other email address
- Look carefully at who they sent the message to – you will find this is not your email address
- Hover your mouse over the ‘Facebook’ link. Onlinejoy.de???? The link is definitely not taking you to Facebook!
What do you do about it? Delete the email and carry on enjoying Facebook as you have been.
