Ofcom, the telecoms regulator has allowed Everything Everywhere (the owner of the Orange and T-Mobile networks) to use its existing bandwidth to start offering 4G mobile services. Both Vodafone and O2 have expressed disappointment at the decision with Ofcom planning to auction 4G bandwidth to other providers in 2013.
Why 4G?
4G means that faster mobile broadband speeds will be available for UK customers, within a month. Presently, four carriers in the US offer a 4G service and provide their customers with between 4 and 6 times the speed of a 3G connection.
How do I get 4G?
You will require a 4G handset or tablet to take advantage of these new services. Apple's recent iPad is the only 4G capable tablet device which is widely available and at this time, there are doubts whether it will be compatible with UK 4G networks.
