The Lava International XOLO X900 will be the first smartphone powered by an Intel Atom processor and goes on sale April 23rd 2012 for 22,000 rupees (£265).
The XOLO X900 features a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z2460 low power processors with support for 1080p HD video recording and playback. The phone runs Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread at launch, but an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich software update will be available soon.
The phone has a 4.3 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, support for HSPA+ mobile broadband, GPS, an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 1.3 MP front-facing camera. It has stereo speakers, and the usual array of sensors including an accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light sensor, and proximity sensor as well as a magnetometer.
"After our success in feature phones, with over 10 million happy customers in under three years, XOLO will be a differentiated player in the fast-growing smartphone segment," said Lava's co-founder and director Vishal Sehgal.
Intel previously attempted to enter the mobile phone market in 2010 when it signed a deal with LG. The venture failed to take off and no smartphones were developed.
However, Motorola Mobility and Lenovo are expected to announce devices featuring Intel processors in the near future. The chip maker revealed partnerships with both firms at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year.
