Supporting the community is important to PC PAL and we always look for a variety of opportunities to help. We’ve recently been working hard to keep Wales tidy and Andrew Wright of PC PAL Denbighshire has been leading the way in his local area of Rhuddlan.
Andrew’s participation is part of a wider initiative called Tidy Towns, which is Wales’ own community clean-up initiative, designed to help volunteer groups take charge of their local environment. With support from local authorities and funding by the Welsh Government, the programme is making inroads in communities throughout Wales. With the help of people like Andrew and many others in North Wales, your community could be next.
In June this year, Andrew and 7 others made a significant contribution by collecting 19 bags of rubbish on a long and wet day.
In July Andrew collected 7 bags of rubbish in one day so he has certainly done his bit to keep the area tidy. Usually volunteers only fill 2 or 3 bags, so it was a fine effort from Andrew.
Tidy Towns is part of a wider initiative called Keeping Wales Tidy which involves much more than picking up litter.
The initiative focuses on protecting the environment and preserving the natural landscape for current and future generations. It’s not just litter picking, communities can focus on turning waste grounds into a shared community space or maintaining a public area that’s fallen into disrepair. Others have focused on improving access to local facilities by restoring pathways. Almost anything that makes Wales a better, cleaner place to live.
Andrew Wright said, “It’s important to give back to the community where ever possible and I am always happy to help where I can. It was great fun working with Gareth Jones and the team of other volunteers. I’m looking forward to the next time we can all get together.”
Gareth Jones, The Tidy Towns Project Officer said, “Thank you for your great efforts at keeping your local area of Rhuddlan free from Litter. You do a great and very dedicated job in Rhuddlan and I know it doesn’t go un-noticed by the residents and the Community of the area. There is a clear and noticeable difference in the cleanliness of Rhuddlan and I hope you are incredibly proud of your efforts!”
Not only do PC PAL help people with their computer problems, we always look for opportunities to help people in other ways. Andrew is also running a computer drop in scheme at the Rhuddlan Community Centre every Monday from 2pm till 4pm. If you have any computer concerns pop in ask any questions you like related to computers.
We argued with the doctor for a long time about whether to treat the child from Helicobacter pylori or not. In the end, the doctor "gave up" and we were advised passing the course of treatment which included two antibiotics, one of which was amoxicillin.
Managing Director of PC PAL UK Jat Mann is delighted with Andrew’s community spirit, he said; “We encourage close community relationships with our IT support engineers and this is certainly a positive commitment that has been made by Andrew.”
