Do You Still Use Windows Vista Or XP?

asks Peter Clarke of PC PAL

If you use Windows Vista or Windows XP as your operating system and Chrome as your internet browser you may see a message which several of my customers are finding confusing.

The message is warning you that Google no longer supports Chrome running on Vista or XP and so will not provide any further updates for it. It can easily be interpreted as meaning Vista is no longer supported by Microsoft – this is not true; whilst Microsoft no longer supports XP they will continue to support Vista until April 2017.

Browsers are programs that allow you to search the internet and there are an increasing number of browsers available for your use.   If Chrome is not an option for you due to its lack of security updates then try an alternative such as Mozilla Firefox which can easily be downloaded free of charge from www.mozilla.org

Although Internet Explorer is a commonly used browser it is also no longer supported for operating systems earlier than Windows 7 such as Vista and XP.

If you want to discuss which browser you can use with your operating system or want to discuss upgrading your operating system to one that is better supported by Microsoft please don’t hesitate to call me.
